burial ground where Catholics and Protestants are buried.
There is the following legend told about it. Long ago it was supposed to be infested with a plague of rats. The rats were so numerous and so large that people were afraid to pass the graveyard not to mind burying a body there.
Everything possible was tried to banish them but failed. Eventually a poet from the North called Dómhnall Cam. visited the place and he banished them into the sea at Rosscarbery.
It is said that on the journey to Rosscarbery one of the rats got lame. Two of its companions got a cipin and put it into its mouth. Then each took hold of an end of the stick and in that manner they conveyed their little companion along.
