- In olden times the people had lots of queer customs at Christmas in comparison with the people of to-day. Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Eve they did not eat their dinner until about six o'clock. For the dinner they only had potatoes, flour sauce, and fish which they caught in the local rivers. After this they boiled water in a pot. When it was boiled they put tea and milk into it. They then divided the tea in tin cans called mugs. After the tea they lit candles in the windows as they said to give light to the "Blessed Virgin" if she was coming to the house. They never went to bed without leaving water inside fearing the "Good People" would come in for a drink. They also left the door on the latch and the candle in the kitchen window.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
