In former days instead of consulting a medical doctor people depended mostly on homely cures for their ailments.
Cure for a sty on the eye: Point a gooseberry thorn nine times in front of it.
Cure for sore eyes: Wash them with cold tea.
Ringworm and wildfire are said to be cured by the seventh son. He says while doing so: "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, Amen."
It is said that vinegar will cure "thrush".
A sore throat is cured by filling a stocking with hot salt and tying it round the sore throat.
