- Oaten-bread was the staple food of the local people in former times.
This bread was made from oaten-meal got by grinding the oats grown in the district.
Flour was never ground locally as there were no flour-mills in the locality.
It is said that a great number of querns were used in this district, and with these they used to grind the oats into meal.
The different kinds of bread which the people made were potato-cake, boxty-bread, and oat-meal bread.
It is said that bread was baked twice or three times a week.
Griddle bread was also made.- Informant
