- There are not as many football matches nowadays as long ago as there are many other outdoor amusements besides.It is said that in a field called 'Turing' in the townland of Racepark football was very often played. The local people that used be playing there. Thirteen players that were on each side. Before the football match there used be a test to find out the best player. A man named Kelly was the judge. The players were dressed with jerseys black and white and refereeing was done the same as nowadays. There were no goal posts in former times. Instead there used be a piece of timber driven in the ground or three or four stones left on top of one another were used. This was called a 'bob'.
