    When supper was eaten there was some boxty left in the oven, and the oven was left by the fire to get heated until the household was going to bed. When the household were going to bed, the man of the house lifts the lid of the oven in order to let the fairies eat enough of boxty. The floor was then swept clean and some clean water was left in a bucket and the kitchen was left in order, as the fairies were supposed to come to each house and amuse themselves. Another old custom was that throwing stones and turnips at the neighbours' doors. This indeed was a mean practice and was often the cause of rows between neighbours but I am glad to say has fallen away for the past years. Many games and tricks are played on this night by the young folk, and the following are a few tricks that are very common in the
