The old people used make their own candles long ago. Whenever they killed a cow the tallow was kept, and melted. Every house had moulds was placed point downward on a sod of turf. The wick was passed through it, and fastened at the top by a nail. The boiled tallow was poured into the mould then, and left to set, and after a few hours it is taken out.
