- About one acre of potatoes is planted each year on the farm which my father owns. First of all he prepares the ground on which the seed is to be sown-first of all, manuring and then ploughing it, and transforming it into either drills or ridges. Of recent years most of the farmers in this locality plant the potatoes in French drills, which is nothing more than planting them in every second sod turned by the plough.In olden times wooden ploughs were very much in evidence in this district.
