INSOVENAGHDuring the period of which I write, the whole district south of the Sovern (or Lee) river was known as "Inis Soverna" a name which will now be quite intelligible to Irish scholars, Inis being a tract of land lying near a river. Inis Soverna became coextensive with the lower barony of Kinelea, and as such is mentioned in Smith's History of Cork (1750), as Insovenagh Oysterhaven, or, as it was written showing its Scandanavian origin. Oysterhafn was the port of Inis Soverna and the two small islands beyond the harbour's mouth were known as the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
