Killarney (Cill Arne) signifies the Church of the Sloe-bush; Drimoleague (Drom da Leag), the hill of the two pillar-stones; Durrus (Dubh-ros), black wood or headland; Glengarrif, Gleann Garbh, Vallis Aspera, rough valley, Carriganass , Carraig-an-Easaig, Torrentirupes,(?) cascade-rock; Whiddy, Inis Faide (long island); Cape Clear, Inis Cleire (priest's island) Nohaval, Nuadh Cougbhal, new ecclesiastical building; Kinelmeaky and Kinelea are called after Bec and Aedh, who figure in the geneaology of the Uí Eachach.

   Cromwell's Bridge at Glengarrif was anciently called Keamagower (the goat's pass)
