  1. About 100 yards from where I live, at a corner on the road there is a place called "The Cross" in Mcdonnells field as there was a chapel cross there once. The old people of the village say that there is a story connected with it. During the Penal Laws when the Priests were hunted and killed for saying mass, they often hid in secret places and said mass and it is said that they said mass in this place,
    About half a mile from "the Cross" there is a bog called the "Old Bog" and it is hidden by a hill called "Chimney Hill". This bog was a great hiding place for the Priests during that
