- In old times people had cures of their own for ailments. To cure toothache, a frog was put in the mouth or a person took a mouthful of water and sat beside the fire until the water boiled of a mixture was made of marigolds steeped in vinegar and this was rubbed to the teeth and gums. The cure for measles was ferret's leaving or sheep's droppings boiled in milk. The cure for whooping cough was donkey's milk, or to pass the child backwards and forwards three times under a donkey's legs.In this district people who had sore eyes visited Tobar na súile in Mr J Connolly's land Reavouler.
