- Faction fighting lasted here until, I suppose, eighty years ago. A "faction" was made up of men of the one family and their friends. The Mahony Kéins [Ma-henny Céins] were a great faction. The Crowley Riabhachs and the Mahony Donnchadha's were other rivals. They used to meet at some appointed time, a fair day or a race day, and armed with hazel or blackthorn sticks they fought each other. I never heard of anyone having been killed at a faction fight. There was no animosity between the factions, and once the fight was over the rivals would be good friends. The fighting was just a game.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
