- Many years ago a certain old man used to go every winter's night to his neighbour's house and spend a few hours there cardplaying or talking, singing or dancing or some such amusements. One night it rained very hard and it never ceased until it was nearly midnight, and as his house was about a mile away he could not go home. Then at about twelve or one o'clock when the rain ceased he started out for home.It was very dark and it was very difficult for him to find his way at all. There were no fences on a part of the road and after a while he found himself in a marsh. It was very soft and wet, and he tried to get out of it and as he was doing so he stumbled and fell into a hole in which was a table of ware and a candle lighting. After he falling on the table he heard the shouts of laughter around him but he could not see anybody. He got very frightened but got out of the hole after a while and gathered himself home.
