- The Village of Blarney is famed for its Castle which is the centre of attraction for visitors from all parts of the World and has some remarkable legends attached to it. Some writers tell us that Blarney Castle was the scene of a great battle during the Cromwellian time and that Cromwell's army over-whelmed the defenders of the Castle who escaped and took their valuable treasures with them and buried them in the lake at the back of the Castle.
The Lake is still holding the treasures as nobody ever succeeded in recovering them. Blarney has also produced some of the greatest men in the field of sports, some of them holding records for running, weight-throwing, & hurling. Mr Andrew Forest, Tram House, Blarney held the Championship of Munster for throwing the 56 lb weight.
