- Travelling people visited the houses, and soul sold sundry things which were
bought in big cities. People were
delighted with their visits, because those
travellers knew about other districts, and
they also knew the latest news. Other
people foregathered there, to hear the travellers' stories. They remained in that house for a night or two, they made their bed at one side of the hearth with hay or straw, and got bed clothes from the people of the house. Those people travelled singly, because they knew farmers would not board them, if they travelled in families.
Now, travellers travel in families in a little caravan. These best
known in my district, are, the Harringtons, the Coffeys, the O'Brians, and McCarthys, they erect their tents for the night at the bend of the road at both Chárthaigh.- Bailitheoir
