- The people used grind their own wheat and make it into flour with querns Not far from Gardeen people used to cut the wheat in the morning and have it made into bread for dinner. Everyone made candles out of tallow. Mrs O Brien of Melehera made her own soap out of soda and tallow.
There were big baskets, called hampers made for carrying potatoes. There was a forge in Lismire which was owned by Florence McCarthy. He used to make all kinds of iron goods. Many local people used to make linen with spinning wheels. All local people used knit, and make flannel with machines. There were also weavers in the district, such as James Crimmon and some others.
