- Not many historical incidents occurred in my district.
About four miles outside Kanturk Co. Cork a battle was fought in a place called "Knoc na Nos", between the Irish and the English soldiers. The Irish had a very bad leader who fled from the field before the battle was over leaving the Irish to fight for themselves. Therefore the English got the victory on that day.
Donncad Mac Carthy was the most renowned local chieftain. It was he who built "The Old Court" a castle situated about half a mile outside Kanturk, Co. Cork. This castle was never finished because Queen Elizabeth who reigned in England at that time wouldn't allow him to finish it. Now it is roofless and crows make their nests in it.
