- The Thistle, Dockleaf, Ragweed or Buachalan are the most harmful weeds that grow on the farm. The Thistle spreads rapidly if not cut before it flowers The Dockleaf has a tremendous root and is very hard to pull. Ferns grow only in good land. Fionán grows only in poor land. A Fairy Thimble is good for disease of the heart. A nettle is good for pains in the bones. Nettles are boiled sometimes and taste like Cabbage. Thistles are sometimes boiled for fowl. An Ellistrum is used for dyeing purposes and is also supposed to be a cure for a toothache. Any person was not cured by herbs in this district.
