“There was a man who had five daughters...”
(ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)There was a man who had five daughters and all but one - who was very cranky - were married and no-one would marry her. Her father met a young farmer one day, who was ploughing. One of his horses was a "sulker" so he didn't give that horse a feed for two days. He went in to his dinner and when he came out he tackled the good horse before the other and tied a sheaf of oats on the back of the good horse. When the bad horse saw the sheaf it was pulling trying to get the sheaf and in that way it ploughed. The father then sent the match-maker to the farmer who consented. The match-maker told him that she was very cross, but he said(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
