- There are many thatchers living in this part of the country. This is how thatching is done :-
First you would need a good many bundles of twigs and reed according to what size the house is. Then the twigs should be pointed and cut, each about a yard long. These are now called spars. The reed would be taken from the thresher in bundles. Then the reed should be pulled and made into sheaves. The reed should be put in handfuls doubled on the house and then a spar should be driven through the handful. Patrick Sullivan is about the best thatcher around here.
