- 114Food In Olden Times.The people lived on three meals a day in olden times. Porridge or gruel made from yellow meal with skim milk was the morning meal. Oat-meal porridge was used only by those who could afford it. The dinner consisted of potatoes and dip; meat was a rarity, used only during Christmas times.
