The tea was allowed to draw in a 'tea-drawer', a vessel made of tin, and after ten minutes or so by the fire, the tea was poured from the 'drawer' into an earthenware tea-pot. As cups were rare then, basins were extensively used instead. The servants and working men did not get tea for breakfast until about forty years ago.
