- OLD CRAFTS: ROPE MAKINGPeople used to make their own ropes long ago. They used to make hay ropes for tying wynds. They would pull a bit of hay and twist it and then they would put either a bit of a stick or a bit of iron into the hay. They would make it very long and sometimes they used to double it to make it strong. Jim Brislane of Carrageen used to make them. He made several ropes out of binding twines twelve years ago and they are still in use.
