- Shops were common in olden times. People had not to go to the nearest town to make purchases. Buying and selling was carried on after Mass and this is still practised. Money was sometimes given for goods. Goods were often bartered in this district such as cows, horses and other animals. There are some coins and the people refer to them by various names. The sixpence is refered to as a "tanner", the shilling a "bob", the pound a "quid", and the three-penny bit a "kids eye". The eight-penny-bit are gone out of use.
