Nothing marks the spot where the Castle stood, but a few ivy-covered walls, where the owl & the swallow find suitable crevices to build a home for their young.
When monasteries were more plentiful in Ireland, the Friars of St Dominic found an ideal spot for the erection of an abbey, within a stone's throw of the great Castle.
For years, these holy men worked for the salvation of souls in this picturesque little parish, but a tyrant put an end to their sacred edifice during the penal times.
No tomb marks the spot where those heroes spent their lives, except a few shattered walls which afford shelter to beasts in cold, wet weather. Just a little below the Castle is a well dedicated to St Dominic.
The peasantry have great veneration for this & formerly they made an annual visit to it.
Wonderful are the stories which the older people relate with regard to the principal historic places of the parish of Glanworth.
