- There is only one forge in this parish and it is very old. It is now worked by two men who are brothers and whose names are Hickeys. This forge was worked many years ago by their father and grandfather, so that it is in the family for at least two hundred years. It is situated at a cross-roads and there is a pump beside it. When this forge was worked by their father and grandfather it was then thatched but is now roofed with timber and felt. This felt is tarred every year to preserve it. The door is in two halves on which are the shoes of famous race horses that were shod here many years ago. There were two fires and two bellows in this forge long ago but now there is only one. The present bellows was bought in Cork. The tools which these smiths use are, hammers, sledges, punches, pincers, knives, and nails. There are also two anvils and a vice in this forge. They shoe horses, donkeys and ponies. Long ago they used to make farm implements such as harrows, ploughs, spades and many other things. They band(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
