- There are three holy wells in the parish of Doneraile known as the sister wells. One is situated in a wood bordering on the town of Doneraile, another near Wallstown Castle known as Saint Bernard's Well and the third in a field named the "horse close"
People still visit the wells and perform rounds there, but they do not go in groups as they did long ago. Years ago people came on a certain day and held a pattern. These "patterns" used to last three or four days and people came from all over the country to perform rounds and say prayers there.
There are stories told in connection with these wells by older people. The well near the town is said to have been founded by Coneela a virgin saint of Doneraile and the one in the "horse close" was founded by Saint Grania.
