- Marriages generally take place here at Shrove-tide. Mostly all the marriages take place on Shrove Tuesday, because no marriage can take place again until Easter.Mondays and Fridays are supposed to be unlucky days for marriages. People rarely wed in August and May. Formerly marriages were performed in the houses. Now it is customary for the wedding pair to go to the Church. When the cermony is over they return to the brides house and spend the evening feasting, dancing and enjoying themselves. As a rule the wedding parry have Nuptial Mass to bring God's blessing on the bride and bridegroom.When the marriage party are leaving the Church the people throw confetti or rice on them. The bride and bridegroom in return through silver coins among the poor people. Those who can afford it go to Cork or Dublin for a week or fortnight on their honey-moon.Long ago they had wedding processions. The guests rode on horse back and raced one another home.
