When the travellers reached Glanworth, about a quarter of a hour later this was the whole topic of the town. Another tale tells how William Courtney was taken ill and there was danger that he would die. When the case looked its darkest, Abbie paid them a visit and told Mrs Courtney that she need not be troubled about her husband's life that he would not die this time but that "Johnny Mookley" from the cross of Ballyclough would go instead of him.
They could not believe this, but a few days later "Johnny Mookley" who was in perfect health up to this was taken ill, from which he never rallied and passed away in a few hours whilst William Courtney recovered health strength and vigour to the surprise of all the countryside.
Another tale tells how the Burke family had a very good working mare and she was taken ill. A veterinary surgeon was requisitioned and passed little hope of her recovery.
