   The following are the words inscribed on the monument in "Ballymacoda."

   Erected by the Irish people,
   To the memory of the Patriot
   Peter ONeill Crowley, who was
   shot down by British soldiers.
   Whilst fighting bravely for
   his country's independence, at Kilclooney
   on March the 31st 1867. in the 35th
   year of his age. R. I. P.

   On May the 22nd 1898 a beautiful Cross to commemorate Crowley's memory was unveiled almost on the very spot where he yielded his young life for Ireland's sacred cause 31 years before. An immense multitude assembled on the sloping ground on the occasion from the counties of Cork Limerick and Tipperary, to pay respect to the memory of the brave man, whose name will forever be associated with the name of Kilclooney.
