  1. St. Brigid's Eve.
    People placed some portion of cloth such as a handkerchief on the window sill or latch of the door on St. Brigid's Eve to be blessed by St. Brigid who was supposed to travel around from house to house on that night.
    This cloth called Brath Breeda was afterwards carefully preserved and used for curing pains and aches.
    It was also usual to place an armful of straw on the doorstep for St. Brigid to kneel on while blessing the household.
    St. John's Eve.
    On the twenty third (23rd) June which is called Bone [Fire] Night many farmers light fires out in the open air and drive their rows through them to ward off evil spirits and diseases for the year.[bhildren] have great fun on that night gathering wood for fire and when lighted they jump over it and there is much laughing and joking among them. The older people also jump over the fire but their amusement chilly consists of dancing in the vicinity of the fire to
