- 1. There are four forges in this parish. The smiths names are John Long who has his forge at Annmount, Ml. Long who has his forge at Pigeonhill, John Mc Namara who has his forge at Caherlag and Mrs Long who employs a smith to work her forge at Brooklodge. The family of the Longs have been smiths for generations. The four forges are situated at cross-roads. The forges are roofed with slates. The smiths light one fire usually but when they are shoeing wheels they light two fires. The bellows is made from timber and leather, it has a large timber handle which is worked up and down. It has an air valve at the side and a metal pipe at the end through which the air is blown to fan the fire.
