The pigeon builds her nest in an ivy tree or a fir tree. She builds it with sticks only. She lays only two white eggs.
The pheasant roosts out a nest in a glen. She lays about sixteen eggs which are brownish in colour.
The snipe makes her nest in a clump of rushes. She lays about five or six blackish eggs.
The owl builds her nest of bones in the hollow of a tree or old barn. She lays from three to six dull white eggs.
The weather can be judged from the behaviour of certain birds. The chaffinches, peewits, woodpeckers and tits make a peculiar cry before a spell of wet weather. The swallows fly low before rain.
