- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)but the strangest tale refers to a magic rat that attached itself to the one of the lords of the castle. One night during a great storm word was brought to the castle that a ship was wrecked. When a couple of fishermen went out to her assistance, they rescued a maiden and brought her to the castle.
She stayed in the castle for a long time, then she gave the lord a silk ribbon which she told him to wear on his wrist and then she left the castle. Time went on and the lord got married and his wife was very anxious to know about the ribbon. One night she untied it and tried to read the strange markings on it, when it caught fire in the candlelight.
The Lord was very angry and went travelling and no matter where he went a white rat following him. One day his brother tried to kill the rat. Try as he might to destroy it, he even tried to shoot it, but it was quicker than he, and it sprang on his hand and bit him and he died of lockjaw the next day.- Bailitheoir
