Conor Garven prophesied that a carriage driven without horses would pass through the rock of Foynes, and that was years before there was any talk of a new road.
A great many men, who came eight or nine miles obtained employment in the making of the road. They toiled at this hard work of cutting the rock for the sum of four shillings a week.
One of the men named Cloughessy who worked on the road often brought fish from Glin to Cork. It took him a week to go and to come. There is a river at Ballinash, which has tepid water.
