“Poem composed on the death of Commandant Seán Finn, of the West Limerick Brigade..”
Poem composed on the death of Commandant Seán Finn, of the West Limerick Brigade, who was shot near the village of Ballyhahill.
'Seán Finn'
One evening fair in Easter week,
In nineteen twenty one,
By Knockpatrick's fair, and holy peak,
The sun declining shone,
The blackbirds sang and their music rang,
Where Abha Bhán waters flow,
And the thrush's strain rang o'er the plain
Of peaceful Ballyroe. The little lambs did sport and play,
In a field where wild flowers grew,
The weary plough boy toiled all day,
His hard work nearly through,
A cool Spring breeze swept through the trees,
Into the vale below,
And who would fear, that the foe was near,
Sweet smiling Ballyroe. But soon that peaceful scene was o'er
And the sound of a rifle peal,(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
