- Long ago the food that was used was very different from what we have now. It is a great wonder how they existed at all with the scanty food they had. It only consisted of three meals every day, potatoes, salt and skimmed milk. They got up very early every morning and tried to do some work though hunger often prevented them. The meals were taken at certain intervals first breakfast about eight. Then dinner about one and finally their supper at seven o'clock. The vessels were called piggins used for the milk as at that time no earthenware was known. The table was usually placed in the middle of the floor(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
