Linen scarfs were first used at funerals in 1729 and in 1733 burying in shrouds first came into fashion.

Again in 1739 there came a very severe frost, which was ever after called "the year of the great frost," because it exceeded any other within the memory of man. It began at Christmas, lasted nine weeks and was followed by great scarcity and a great number of poor persons died.

In the month of July 1769 a post (mail) began to come five times a week and before this date it only came three times weekly from Dublin to Limerick.
