- On the 8th of August one of our greatest athletes William Real or Pallasgreen died at the early age of 33. He was in failing health for a long time. He had been a member of the "Invasion" team of 1889. At putting the heavy weights he had no equal in his day. He never stripped at an athletic meeting but merely let his braces drop at his sides before he competed. He held world records in the following events: 42 lbs with Follow 28ft 6.5ins
(Limerick 19th June 1884) ;
56 lbs with Follow 36ft 8.5ins
(Philadelphia October 25th 1888)
