- (continued from previous page)market-baskets and skeicks (that's the nearest I can go to spelling it) The sally rods were stuck in the ground in "u" shapes, the centre one the largest, each "u" getting smaller. Then the long sallies were woven in and out between the "u"s which formed the framework of the basket. These skeicks were used to pick potatoes in, afterwards water was thrown into them which carried off all the earth and left the potatoes clean. Those baskets were also used to drain potatoes after boiling, the basket being placed in a tub, and the pot of potatoes emptied into it. The basket held all the potatoes dry and steaming while all the water ran off.
