"Necessity is the mother of invention" and so when salmon weighing forty and fifty pounds frequented the deep pools around the Falls of Doonass and when the old ash rods used could not stand the strain of these heavy fish Enright set to work and designed a rod which till to day has not been improved upon for efficiency. The popularity of this rod was so widespread that he got orders for hundreds of them from such far away places as Russia and Canada.
    He employed ten men in a section of the Shannon Hotel known as the "Rod Loft" and with the aid of a circular saw, ordinary saws planes and chisels he fashioned from the green hart tree rods which are to day still operating on practically every salmon river in the world. The durabilitiy of the rod destroyed the trade. Enright further enhanced the value of this rod by winning in 1909 the world's Championship for casting
