  1. Signs of Storms and Rain
    Before the storm the sky gets a grey and red in colour
    Birds and Animals
    The swallow flies close to the ground before rain. The sea-gulls come to the uplands from the rivers and this is a sign of wet or stormy weather. When the curlews are heard screaming wet weather is near. When the dog eats grass and the horse stands with his back to the ditch it denotes rain.
    The Sky
    The shy is a grey colour before rain. When it is red it is a sign of wind.
    Nearness of the Hills
    When the hills look near it denotes rain
    Smoke
    When the smoke goes up straight it is a sign of fine weather.
    The Fire
    When the fire is smoky it is a sign of rain.
    Insects
    When midges are very numerous it foretells rain
