- Travelling folk are well know in this part of the country, although they are not as common as they used to be. There was one old man who used to come fairly often. He was very small and very old and every body called him Santa Claus. He used to carry a big basket on his arm full of camphor, tie-pins, boot laces lace & other odds and ends.
Nobody knew where he lived & if you asked him he would say "three miles beyond Drogheda on the Dungannon road". He travelled on foot from village to village & house to house. To get rid of him people usually bought a few pence of something from him He hasn't any special days for coming but he hasnt been here for ages now.
Bands of gypsies often come around selling tables, chairs & linoleum. They are not so easy get rid of, as they keep coaxing you to buy & if you don't, they get into bad temper.- Bailitheoir
