  1. About seventy nine years ago there lived in Darragh, in the parish of Ballyea in the County of Clare, a man named John Frawley. He was noted for his great strength. The neighbours often said that he was the strongest man in the parish of Ballyea.
Once upon a time there was a rock in Darragh and its weight was five hundred-weights. Many people tried to lift the rock but they failed. One evening when John Frawley was returning home from his work and he saw four men tring to lift the rock, and he went to where they were and raised the rock three feet off the ground.
On another evening he went to the forge and he raised the anvil of the anvil off the ground with one hand. He proved his strength in many other ways He died at a very advanced age.
