- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The seller asks a price. Usually the buyer considers that too dear and arguments arise between them. After long arguing the neighbours come in to "split the difference". The buyer and seller shake hands and the farmer spits in the other's palm to seal the bargain. They then have a few drinks together to finish up their business.
Cattle are marked by putting a cut of a scissors on them. Jobbers mark them with a raddle which is blue or red. When a cow or horse is sold the halter is given too.
Travelling tinkers attend all the fairs. They arrive at the district three or four days beforehand and leave their caravans on the road side. The women sell halters, linoleums etc, out the country, while the men are drinking, quarreling, selling or swopping horses.- Faisnéiseoir
