- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)field for holding fairs for example Ennis but in other towns there is not. The people have to pay tolls or custom on every beast that is sold. It is paid to the owner of the field. They have to pay sixpence for cattle twopence for sheep and fourpence for pigs.
"Earnest" is paid only on some of the cattle. If a man buys a cheap beast, the buyer gives some money to the seller for fear he would sell the beast again for a bigger price. When "earnest" is given if the seller sells the beast again he can be prosecuted
Any sum from a half a crown upwards will do as "earnest".
When the bargain is made the buyer striks a blow of the palm of his hand on the sellers hand.
Some buyers mark the beasts bought, by putting some of the mud of the street on the beast's with a rod, others cut a mark(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
