- There was a few shops in this district long ago. The people bought the things they wanted in the shops. There was nothing sold outside the chapel gate after Mass.
Money was very scarce in olden times. Sometimes the people used money for buying and selling. They used exchange somethings for other things. They used exchange horses for cows. While the men used be cutting and saving the turf at home the women would bring a cart of it about nine miles and they only got three pence half penny for it. When a man would want a horse he would not have any money to buy the horse and he would have to swap three cattle for the horse.
Some people think that Sunday is an unlucky day for buying or selling. The people were unwilling to buy calves on a Sunday
