- John Hill was born somewhere in Derry close on a century ago.
Hill who belonged to the trampclass, and spent the greater part of his life, around Co. Louth died about 35 years ago.
After spending a few nights in a boarding at Duddestown in the Parish of Togher, Hill, wrote a song which made his name a household word in every part of the country.
This song entitled The Duddestown Fleas caused laughter in many a dance house about 30 yrs agoThere was fleas in the kitchen,
And fleas in the room.
And fleas in the loft.

One jumped on his back.Hill, who occasionally spent a night at the house of Mrs Marron, Killaly House Dunleer composed another song entitled "Killaly Hall".
