- About nineteen years ago a house went on fire in Laytown. The fire started when a piece of a sleeper of the Railway was put on the fire and set the flames going up the chimney. The flames caught a crows nest which was on top of the chimney. The sparks set fire to the thatch for it was very. None of the people of the house were injured. The local people had the fire nearly out before police came. The wind was blowing the flames up against Mr Harrison's shop and some of the men got up on the roof and threw water, but the wind changed and blew the flames in another direction. The house was a double or semi detached house. One half was occupied by a family called Lynch and the other belonged to people named King.
